UK Government Fuel Finder

The official fuel-data scheme.
Route & Fuel makes it practical.

What the official Fuel Finder service provides

The service combines current retail prices with information about the station. Drivers normally encounter the data through third-party apps and websites.

The statutory Fuel Finder open-data scheme launched on 2 February 2026.

1

Traders submit changes

When a station price changes, the trader must submit the update within 30 minutes under the scheme requirements.

2

Station information travels with the price

Published fields can include fuel grade, operator and brand, address, amenities, opening hours and price update timestamps.

3

Apps turn data into a driver experience

The developer service allows authorised products to retrieve the data and present useful searches and comparisons.

What Route & Fuel adds

Reported prices are the starting point, not the whole journey decision

Route & Fuel combines station information with the driver’s route and vehicle assumptions. It does not claim to be the government service.

From Fuel Finder and other published station prices

  • Current price by reported fuel grade
  • Station identity, location and available details
  • The time associated with the latest submitted price change

From the Route & Fuel app

  • Postcode, current-location and station searches
  • Where the station sits on your journey, detour distance and live traffic checks
  • MPG, litres bought and calculated saving after extra driving

Search current station prices by postcode

Choose the correct fuel grade and compare last-updated times. The last-updated time remains the final price check.

Price checks run every 5 minutes using Government and retailer updates.

Questions drivers ask

The scheme and the app, kept distinct

Official requirements describe data submission. Route & Fuel controls its own interface and calculations.

When did the government Fuel Finder scheme launch?

The statutory Fuel Finder open-data scheme launched on 2 February 2026. From that date, motor fuel traders were required to report pump-price changes within 30 minutes.

Is Route & Fuel an official government app?

No. Route & Fuel is an independent app and website. It uses reported fuel prices and station details, then adds its own postcode, station, route, detour and vehicle-economy tools.

Does the 30-minute rule mean every price refreshes every 30 minutes?

No. Traders must submit an update within 30 minutes when a pump price changes. An unchanged price can therefore retain an older change time.

What information is available through Fuel Finder?

The official service covers current prices by fuel grade together with station, operator and brand information, amenities, opening hours and last-updated times, subject to the fields available for each site.

Route & Fuel keeps national averages separate from individual station prices. These latest UK fuel prices were last refreshed on 28 August 2026; typical ranges show where most prices sit instead of treating one unusually low price as a guaranteed bargain.
