Your estimated cost

This is an estimate using your inputs. Your fuel gauge is approximate, and the amount you can add varies. Always follow your vehicle and pump instructions; stop at the pump’s automatic cut-off.

How the calculation works

Litres to add = tank capacity × the proportion of the tank that is empty. Multiply those litres by the pump price in pence, then divide by 100 to get pounds.

Example: a 55-litre tank at 174.9p per litre costs £96.20 from empty. If it is half full, adding about 27.5 litres costs £48.10. These are example inputs, not a live average.

Full tank cost or journey cost?

The cost to fill your tank depends on litres and pump price. MPG matters when estimating how much fuel a journey uses. Petrol, diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid fuel tanks use the same fill-up calculation.
