What we publish
Our editorial team writes and reviews fuel price explainers, retailer comparisons, journey-cost guidance and worked calculations. We do not present retailer marketing as independent evidence, and Route & Fuel is not affiliated with a fuel retailer.
Price-data method
Fuel price pages use the latest public station data available to Route & Fuel. The source hierarchy starts with UK Fuel Finder data and supported retailer price submissions. We keep the station, fuel grade, listed price and last-changed time together so readers can assess freshness.
Local and retailer averages use only stations reporting the displayed grade. Sample sizes are shown by grade where the page has that breakdown. We do not silently substitute E10 for E5, diesel for premium diesel, or an unavailable grade for another fuel.
Premium petrol and RON labels
E5 describes ethanol content; it does not by itself prove a RON rating. Our RON 97+ and RON 99 views use product and retailer information where available, while making clear that availability can vary by site. Drivers should choose the fuel grade specified for their vehicle.
Calculations and assumptions
A pump-price comparison multiplies the price-per-litre difference by the litres selected. A route saving check can then subtract the fuel used by the extra drive using the selected distance, MPG and fuel price. The website labels example fill sizes; the app can use the driver's inputs and vehicle details.
Route distance, traffic and station prices can change. We explain the inputs beside a result rather than presenting a calculated comparison as a guaranteed saving.
Review and corrections
Guides show their publication and review dates. Fuel price pages show when the prices on the page or at matching stations changed. We update factual claims when sources or product details change and correct calculation or display errors when they are identified.
